Vespa History:

Vespa's timeless design comes from an equally timeless company - Piaggio has been a distinguished innovator in the field of transportation for nearly 120 years. Piaggio was founded in Genoa, Italy in 1884 by twenty-year-old Rinaldo Piaggio.

Rinaldo's business began with luxury ship fitting. But by the end of the century, Piaggio was also producing rail carriages, luxury coaches, truck bodies, engines, and trains. With the onset of World War I, the company forged new ground with the production of airplanes and seaplanes.

In 1917 Piaggio bought a new plant in Pisa, and four years later it took over a small plant in Pontedera in the Tuscany region of Italy. It was this plant in Pontedera which became its new center for aeronautical production (propellers, engines and complete aircraft).

During World War II, the Pontedera plant built the state-of-the-art P 108 four-engine aircraft, in both passenger and bomber versions. However, the plant was completely destroyed by Allied bombers due to its military importance.

Vespa PX 150: No need to adjust your monitor, and no, you haven't gone back in time. This is the real deal, the original, the legendary, the classic PX, back in the U.S. after a 20+ year hiatus.* These brand new Vespas may have just come off the production line, but they're classic PX. Maintaining its original design and technical innovation, it is the only choice for those who want the traditional four-speed gear shift and a design that never goes out of style.

Vespa LX: Take a new spin on an original classic. From the same pedigree as the first Vespa prototype built by Piaggio in 1946, the LX is 60 years in the making. Witness the evolution of style, comfort, and performance with the core values of Vespa that never change: eco-friendly engineering, passion, individualism, and integrity. With the Vespa LX, you'll quickly see commuting in a whole new light. Commuting and errands can be everything from mundane to frustrating. Be amazed by how those bothersome, everyday scenarios become a lot more fun when you surround yourself with the style, performance and safety that is the Vespa LX.

Vespa GTS: Fifty years ago, Piaggio shook up the scooter world with its Vespa GS (Gran Sport), at the time the fastest Vespa, the first to reach speeds of more than 60 mph and the first Vespa model with 10-inch wheels. Today, Vespa makes history again by renewing the GS blend of speed and style in the Vespa GTS 250, an uncompromising fusion of breathtaking performance, technical superiority and classic Vespa design, to become the most exciting model to date.

Vespa Granturismo 200: With its chrome mirrors and classic Vespa lines, the Granturismo is a thoroughly modern scooter true to its heritage. On the Granturismo you find the kinds of touches that have made Vespa world-famous: pressed steel monocoque chassis, 5-spoke die-cast alloy wheels, chrome retractable passenger footrests, and a classic floorboard design. And the Granturismo shines in the evening: the vintage-style dashboard lights up blue for excellent night-time visibility, and the halogen headlamp provides plenty of illumination.
